Textile Experiments
Mental Map
a map of my area based on the geometric forms that clearly separate the nature and industry
I studied a felt designer who makes felted fabrics out of loose materials. I experimented with this in 3 different ways.
rubber glued ripstop nylon, heat-pressed ripstop nylon, knitted grass texture.
felt insulation material, covered in waterproof fabric, sewed in geometric pattern.
continuation of Ciro's experiment with knit grass texture and the use of hot glue to add texture.
think coated nylon fabric, tested with waterproof seam glue.
ripstop nylon, curved seam with waterproof seam glue.
field research
Plan A: since the area is scarce with people I thought I would leave a sign and come back to it later. the plan failed, no one wrote anything on the sign.
Plan B: On the day that the sign failed, I managed to talk to a biker that was passing through. he said he lives in the area and he bikes through here for exercise.
Plan C: The following weekend I came back to the area and asked a security guard near a gate if I could talk to him or explore inside the gate. he gave a definite no and didn't seem to like speaking English.
Poetic text
This is the world of industry
Where efficiency is the key
The shipping crates are organized
And the machines work tirelessly

Gears and wheels turning round
Its sort of a familiar sound
Inviting yet restrictive
I might return
